Year 9 students’ art as part of a project looking at decay will have their final pieces exhibited at Hardings Picture Framing and Gallery in Shore Road.

Their work will sit alongside local artist Paul Jenkins’ collection of paintings.

Both collections are rich in surface texture and colour, making them an unusual and vibrant display.

Art Teacher Sarah Wallace said: “The Decay Project began with our Foundation Year 9 students in September as a way to encourage pupils to think about all materials and processes used in a Fine Art GCSE.

“Each student has created a handmade book in which to display their work and some have gone further to create a ‘final piece’. Students are really excited to have their work displayed at Hardings Picture Framers in Warsash.”

Artist Paul Jenkins studied art at Portsmouth College of Art and concentrated on traditional water colours, mainly landscape pieces. He later became interested in studio pottery and was fascinated by the way the glazes on pottery reacted when fired. Then he experimented to see if the same effects could be achieved with paint and developed his technique to produce his individual style of painting showing texture, surface tension and colour.

The exhibition of artworks will be at Hardings from January 31 to February 13.
