An actor and former Brookfield School student will return to Sarisbury Green to talk to pupils about a career in acting.

Andrew Silverwood

Andy Silverwood will visit GCSE students and talk to them about following their dreams and creating futures in performing on March 4.

The actor, director and Homegrown Producer for Battersea Arts Centre in London has been invited by Brookfield’s Director of Drama and Dance, Kelly Kent, to share tips of the trade with GCSE students.

The 22-year-old, who grew up in Titchfield Common, said: “I’ve always been really proud of where I came from. The Western Wards are very close to my heart, a place where I was raised, where I learned to perform for the first time and, ultimately, an area that shaped who I am today.

“It is a great honour and opportunity for my company and myself to bring something back to a place that has given me so much.”

Ms Kent said: “It’s always lovely to be able to promote one of our own. When he was at school he had such a passion for drama and the arts. Now he seems to be making a real success of himself. It makes such an impact on our students to see a like-minded student follow their dreams.”

Mr Silverwood, who went to St Anthony’s Catholic Primary School, co-founded group Fragility with James Grice while they were studying together at Rose Bruford College of Theatre and Performance in Sidcup, Kent.

After the success of Fragility’s performance of “In Conversation” at Ashcroft Arts in November 2012, the team was approached by Brune Park School in Gosport, because the themes resonated with students.

In Conversation tells an autobiographical narrative of two friends who reflect on their school days and deals with issues such as peer pressure, bullying, sexuality, sex, and accidentally stealing a Furby from Fareham Market aged nine.

The group will perform to students at Brune Park in Gosport on March 1 and then answer questions about the industry before doing the same thing at Brookfield on March 4.

Mr Silverwood’s career has seen him train both in the UK and Prague and work with companies including Future Cinema, Level 5, Farm in the Cave and 50 Letters.
