A young judo champion from Locks Heath battled national team players while representing Hampshire in a southern tournament.

Jade Hart holds her Hampshire championship trophy alongside a number of her medals from contests over the years
At a previous competition Jade Hart, who trains with Holbrook Judo Club, was crowned Hampshire champion for her weight in the eight to 16-year-old age group.
The 12-year-old then went on to represent the county in the Southern Area Inter-County Team Championships playing against judo players from Kent, Sussex and Surrey.
Jade, who has a yellow belt, battled against judo players who are higher up in the belt colour scheme rank and some girls who have represented Great Britain.
But Jade was happy to win the bronze medal in her individual competition, while her Hampshire team came third overall in the contest in Reading.
The Year 7 pupil at Brookfield School was delighted to take part in the competition, despite being a bit nervous with the challenge of trying to throw her top athlete competitors.
“It’s really exciting because you don’t know what’s going to happen next in competitions,” said Jade, of Woodpecker Copse, who has been playing judo for five years.
“One of the girls I was fighting was 14 and was a GB blue belt. I won against her and came third overall.
“In judo it’s got quite a lot to do with weight and being able to throw people to the floor. I fight quite a lot of big people compared to myself. So I won on my technique and not on my weight.
“I play with 18-year-olds when I’m at training at Brookfield School. I’m with all the bigger ones which is really scary. I get thrown a lot, but I get more experienced.
“I’ve been taught quite a lot by Olympic players, like Karina Bryant from Surrey who won a bronze medal at the 2012 Olympics.
“I like judo because I’m good at it. It’s something that not many other people do and it stands out if you’re good at it. It really is competitive.”
