To get into the festive spirit Brookfield School pupils designed Christmas cards in a competition run by a picture framing store and art gallery in Warsash.
Ten finalists were selected to have their fabulous designs professionally printed into cards and exhibited in Hardings’ gallery window in Shore Road in the run up to Christmas.
The students’ cards will be on sale at Hardings and the school in Sarisbury Green from Monday (November 26) with profits going to Wave 105’s charity Cash for Kids, which supports disadvantaged children.
Design entries were judged by professional designer, Kate Cooke, Hardings’ proprietor, Jeremy Weston and Hardings’ gallery manager, Claire Weston.
Art teacher Rebecca Smith, who co-ordinated the students at Brookfield, said: “The students are really excited about having their designs actually printed and made into cards.
“They expected just one to be printed. So when they realised it was all 10 of them their faces lit up. They’re so proud and it’s nice to show off what we do in the community.”
People have until December 25 to vote on the Hardings’ Facebook page for their favourite design by clicking the ‘like’ icon. The most popular design will win an array of art materials to be presented in January.
Claire Weston said it was tricky selecting the 10 finalists.
“We can’t wait to see the designs made into Christmas cards and hope that proceeds from selling them will help to raise much needed funds for our chosen charity, Cash for Kids,” she said.
“It’s very poetic that local children are helping to raise funds to support other disadvantaged local children.
“I’d also like to encourage everyone to vote for your favourite children’s design on our Facebook page so that one lucky child gets an extra special gift this Christmas!”
The cards will be sold in a pack of 10 for £6, but any extra donations towards the charity will be accepted.
