It’s a show full of madness!

This year’s Brookfield School production “Our House: The Musical” is based on the music of 1980s band Madness – and yes, the students perform the famous Baggy Trouser’s walk-dance in harmony.

Pupils took to the stage last night (November 28) for the first performance of the musical, which tells the tale of a young London lad, Joe Casey, and the impact on his relationship with his  girlfriend after he breaks into a show home to impress her.

With the police at the door 16-year-old Joe has the choice to stay and take responsibility for his actions, or flee to try and get away with it.

Here the play splits and the audiences sees the effect it has on the rest of on Joe’s life and relationship with Sarah, played by Darcy Finden, through the story of Good Joe, played by Harry Taylor, and Bad Joe, played by Luke Barker.

Kelly Kent, Director of Drama and Dance, said all the leading performers handled the complex structure of the play with complete professionalism and were supported by a strong cast of principals – including Matt McLaughlin, Dean Copland, Maisie Hamilton and Pru Akinin who brought plenty of humour as the best friends, Alex Matthews as a very sinister Reecey and Matt Richter, and Sophie Fugard as Mum and Dad.

Ms Kent said: “A Brookfield production is a whole school event. The performances are just as much about the students behind the scenes as on them, so many students have been working very hard on this show since the start of term to produce this entertaining and lively show. Yet again the performing arts at Brookfield have shown what amazing talent there is at the school in all aspects of theatre.”

With plenty of well known musical numbers, including Baggy Trousers, Wings of a Dove, Driving in My Car and, of course, the title song Our House, a good night out was guaranteed for all.

Friends and family were delighted by the first show, with two more nights to go tonight and tomorrow, both at 7pm.

The three-day run sold out in a record time.

More than a hundred students form the cast with just as many helping behind the scenes with set, props, make up, costumes and technical crew.
